Our International TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate is a popular course to prepare you to become  an English teacher abroad, or work as a tutor anywhere.

The demand for TESOL teachers around the globe continues to boom. English has become the global lingua franca and the fact of the matter is that most learners outside the handful of native English-speaking countries are being taught by teachers without native-language skills. The demand of English teachers who are fluent in to the language will not abate anytime soon. Artificial intelligence will never replace what a native English speaking teacher can do with a group of learners of the language.

If you speak English well and think you'd like embark upon an exciting new career in your home country or anywhere in the world, we can help you get there. But you'll need to learn how to teach English first. That's where our International TESOL Certificate comes in.

In addition to the more than 360 hours that a course participant with no experience would typically invest in the course, there are 6 hours of practical teaching that you will need to undertake, which we'll help you get done. You'll also need to purchase or borrow the textbook for the course, The Practice of English Language Teaching by Jeremy Harmer, which comes with a DVD full of English teaching video content,

There are a number of delivery options for you to complete the course:

Most of our students outside Australia are existing English teaching professionals and teacher trainers who want to work abroad or are looking for professional development opportunities.

Just like our Australian-based students, our foreign course participants without English teaching experience will need to invest around 360 hours in the course and need to demonstrate that they have performed 6 hours of practical teaching, providing evidence, including short video evidence of their teaching.

We provide a lot of support and have partner langauge schools in the countries we offer the course in, where you can do the practical teaching component of the course.

Like the Australian course participants, you will also need to purchase or borrow the textbook: The Practice of English Language Teaching by Jeremy Harmer, which comes with a DVD full of English teaching video content

Our course participants outside Australia generally do the course with our workshop but it is not necessary of course. Our partner schools abroad handle all inquiries and course bookings. If you have not seen our course promoted by a school in your country, but have found us, contact us and we'll put you in touch with them.

The two delivery options are:

Option A: a 2 day workshop and online

Our expert TESOL teacher trainers regularly go abroad and deliver workshops at our partner schools in a number of countries. The workshops are titled 'Teaching English the Australian Way' and are great insight into what is expected of you when you teach English in an English-immersion country like Australia, the UK, Canada, the US, and New Zealand.

The workshops contain content on the 2nd day related to the course and what participants need to do to be assessed as competent in each of the units.

Most of our course participants in these workshops are existing English teaching professionals, so the we also provide individual guidance on evidence required for being assessed via RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for some of the 12 units of the course.

Option B: online only

Course participants view the content on the LMS (the Learning Management System e-learning software) or download the student manual, in addition to reading and viewing the content from the textbook, and submit activities and assessment tasks on the LMS.

If you cannot attend the workshop (option A, above) you can arrange your own practical hours at a language school, or we can organise it with one of our partner schools in your country, for a small fee which we pass on to that school.

If you don't know our partner school in your country, contact us and we'll let you know who they are.
