Our International TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate is a popular course to prepare you to become  an English teacher abroad, or work as a tutor anywhere.

The demand for TESOL teachers around the globe continues to boom. English as become the global lingua franca and the fact of the matter is that most learners outside the handful of native English-speaking countries are being taught by teachers without native-language skills. The demand of Englilsh teachers who are fluent in to the language will not abate anytime soon. Artificial intelligence will never replace what a native English speaking teacher can do with a group of learners of the language.

Pick a point on the globe you'd like to live and, chances are, you'll be in demand there as an English teacher. But you'll need to learn how to teach English first. That's where our International TESOL Certificate comes in.

In addition to the more than 360 hours that a course participant with no experience would typically invest in the course, there are 6 hours of practical teaching that you will need to undertake, which we'll help you get done. You'll also need to purchase or borrow the textbook for the course, The Practice of English Language Teaching by Jeremy Harmer, which comes with a DVD full of English teaching video content,

There are a number of delivery options for you to complete the course:

Option A: online only

This is the cheapest and most convenient option. Course participants view the content on the LMS (the Learning Management System e-learning software) or download the student manual, in addition to reading and viewing the content from the textbook, and submit activities and assessment tasks on the LMS. You can arrange your own practical hours at a language school, or we can organise it with one of our partner schools in Sydney, for a small fee which we pass on to that school.

Option B: blended delivery

You can attend our 13 workshops, generally held on consecutive Saturdays. The workshops are great for instruction from experts, peer learning and support (the best type of learning, generally), and provide a forum for you to do your 6 hours of practical teaching instruction. In addition to this, you will read and view the content on the LMS and textbook, and submit activities and assessment tasks on the LMS. Our workshops are held in Sydney but can be delivered in other major cities in Australia when feasible.

Option C: face-to-face workshops

We deliver the course over 4 weeks, 9am to 5pm at our training centre in Sydney. Like the blended delivery, course participants appreciate the contact they have with their expert trainer and the peer learning and support afforded by this intensive delivery method. Just like the other two delivery options, you will read and view the content on the LMS and textbook, and submit activities and assessment tasks on the LMS in addition to the workshops. Of course, all of your practical teaching will be done in the workshops also.

Contact us and we'll let you know the upcoming blended delivery and face-to-face workshop dates. A new one of each starts generally every 3 months in Sydney.
